Key to Change

Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s speech on June 30, 2010 was a historic day for all Filipinos. It was the day when Juan dela Cruz had a new administration, and a new hope on letting him to stand up from being buried.
People can’t deny it; Noynoy’s parents contributed a lot to accomplish Jose Rizal’s dream for the country ------ freedom. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino offered his life to fight against Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship. Corazon “Cory” Aquino continued her husband’s legacy. Cory succeeded in achieving a democratic and peaceful country and created a new constitution in which Ramos, Estrada and Arroyo used as basis in leading the government.
But, what can Noynoy Aquino do? Will there really be a reform in the 15th Congress? Or will it just be the same as in previous administrations? Despite of all criticisms and questionable works of P-Noy when he was in the senate, he would continue to maintain Philippines’ democracy in his fullest potential, ensure the equality for all and do again what his parents did if necessary.
As of now, many Filipinos are suffering from poverty. Filipinos are hoping that every word in his speech is true and that every word in his speech will happen. Juan is numb due to broken promises of some politicians in the 14th Congress. For those who will intend to abuse and take for granted Juan, stop acting like a saint; instead work as a saint. Juan is waiting for a change, a change in handling the government.
Here are some of the points he mentioned in his inaugural speech, “During the campaign we said, if no one is corrupt, no one will be poor. That is no mere slogan for posters — it is the defining principle that will serve as the foundation of our administration. Our foremost duty is to lift the nation from poverty through honest and effective governance.” Another is although he came from a wealthy family, he knows and feels the worries of ordinary and poor citizens, he knows how deaf and blind the justice is to poor people and he knows why people migrate to other countries just to work for the sake of their families.
Every Filipino hoped that P-Noy would be able to fulfill all the things he mentioned in his inaugural speech. It was good that he already prohibited the use of sirens among cars, but it would be better if he continued implementing orders and laws like this that can eliminate traffic in the country, not only about traffic but also in politics.
Furthermore, a president couldn’t accomplish his goals all by himself. Everyone should act. Do not just sit and wait; instead cooperate and support the laws he passes if they are really for the benefit of the country. Let us work together to eradicate social cancer ------- corruption in the government.
